The candidates admitted to this course are selected through the Common Entrance Examination conducted by the Government of Kerala. The candidates should have completed Class XII or its equivalent examination with Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics as optional subjects and should have secured an aggregate of 50% marks or above in these subjects in the qualifying examination. The candidates can choose their option for this course among other graduate courses in Engineering.
The course curricula for B. Tech (Dairy Science & Technology), is prepared in lines with the pattern specified by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (I.C.A.R),
New Delhi as a unique job oriented degree programme which leads to the overall development of graduates and make them capable to face various situations in varied field of work. The course is offered for a total duration of eight semesters. The last semester is set apart for In-plant training and Farm training. The total credits have been apportioned to Dairy Engineering, Dairy Technology, Dairy Chemistry, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Business Management and Dairy Husbandry disciplines with due weightage for each. Students are exposed to the entire gamut of operations taking place in professionally managed dairy processing units, which help them to acquire the required skills set and confidence to work as highly motivated professionals for the emerging dairy industry. They are also enriched with entrepreneurial qualities to start their own industrial units. Internship programme in the Eighth semester provides every student, the required practical exposure in scientific management of organized dairy farms and also in the operation, maintenance and management of large scale commercial dairy processing units like Amul, Schreiber Dynamix, Mother Dairy, Milma etc.
